How can the idea of personal space be implemented in the digital world in which almost all of us now spend time? In the digital world, there is no physical component that is crucial to the original meaning of personal space, but the degree of connection and exchange is significantly higher. The German equivalent of personal space, namely protection zone, actually fits well in this context because it describes the need for a protective authority, even without a local context. The need for sensitive handling of personal data in the digital world is becoming even more relevant, especially in times of social networks and AI. Published data is no longer exclusively subject to individual control, but can be accessed worldwide, used as training data for artificial intelligence, or placed in problematic contexts.
This project aims to make people aware of the obligation to treat personal matters sensitively by visualizing a way to create an individual but abstracted self-image.
